So, what the heck is all this?

This is my "photoblog" or "photographic web log". I've had a few of them over the years, in fact I even started my photographic "career" with one. But after some time it just wasn't my thing anymore and was thus lacking updates. I converted my webpage to a normal gallery, which today is displayed as the "portfolio".

But over the years my photography changed. I didn't shoot as much anymore, since I could often see that the result was not worthy to be put into my gallery. Sometimes I did a shooting day, but out of that, usually one or two images got into the gallery, while the rest never left my hard disk. But some of them are good photos anyway, so today there are dozens of photos like that. That's why I reopened a photoblog again, to show these hidden treasures. And hopefully this will give me a new boost in creativity, motivation and especially give me the chance to learn a lot more. Of course I'll be posting new photos as well.

About me

My name is Oliver Kuka, I am 30 years old, a geek, work as a computer expert at a regional university and spend my free time with photography. As a semi professional shutterbug, who has many other time killers beside photography, I'm not fixed on one theme. Or, to be more precise, I have no style, no thread in my works and sometimes not even a clue what I'm doing. I try everything once in a while. You could say I'm just another hack. But I like what I do, and for me, that's the only reason to go on.

In all my years, I never received any training in photography and I don't intend to get some. Neither do I want to do photography for a living, for it could ruin the fun I have with it.

For me, a good image is either aesthetic, well made or tells a story/has a meaning. I try to combine all of those as much as I can. Not that I'm always successful, but I try. As long as one person out there likes what I do, it's been worth the effort.
